Introductions
(this post will be moved, permanently, to a page of its own in a few days, but until then…)
My name is fairly irrelevant. You could probably find it if you checked with my registrar, or at least the woman that holds it, as my host’s contact details, but I want you to think long and hard about this.
This website isn’t about ME - its about the children some of us are raising.
My daughter is young primary school age. She rages, however, like a two year old caught in a massive tantrum.
Every day.
I’m going to emphasise that.
EVERY DAY.
Day in, day out, for the last six weeks, and the four years preceding that, on average twice a week, sometimes more, sometimes less, she turns into the ball of anger that kicks, punches, bites, screams, stamps feet, slams doors, hurls abuse, pretends we’re hurting her (when we’re out in public), throws chairs and tables at school – distrupts, and thinks its funny to hurt other people.
You’d think, that by now, we could have out ignored her – or found a way to stave off whatever triggers her. Unfortunatly, she’s not ‘just a spirited child’ (though, of course, she has a seirously unbreakable spirit underneath it all) and she’s not abused, neglected, missing a key part of her diet (as far as we can tell), or anything else. She doesn’t have a reason to have these problems – I seperated from her father when she was two, and when she was ten weeks old I spent a while in hospital without her, but if the answer is as simple as that, there is no fixing it – and I refuse to give in on her.
She just can’t – or won’t – take no for an answer. She can’t make choices of equal value to herself (what she wants to eat, or drink, or play with). She can’t follow certian instructions.
But she can sing, and dance, and loves music. She is sweetness and light between tantrums, which burn out as rapidly as they start. She’s highly intelligent, but is behind in so many ways in school.
She’s got a wonderful laugh that I rarely ever hear.
Now.
Am I describing your kid too?
